Covered in Gold

I woke up early the other day, so I decided to take advantage of the golden hour. I grabbed my camera and started shooting. After about half an hour of bliss and anticipation, I realised that the camera was empty and that I had forgotten to insert a memory card… After a few unladylike utterances which shall not be reproduced here, I remembered that, luckily, there was a spare one in my bag and so I still managed to get a few nice shots. Despite the initial hiccup, I think they turned out rather well and I just love the results!

Aramis is wet in these pictures because he loves walking through the high grass. He seems to enjoy the sensation of the blades of grass touching his body and just cannot get enough of it. There is a dog photography rule which says that you shouldn’t take pictures of a wet dog, but I think his wet coat creates a very nice effect here and adds some interesting texture.

Aramis’ reward for posing nicely was getting to play in the high, dew-soaked grass. As every break meant that my model was getting wetter and wetter, I decided to turn his (from a photographer’s perspective) vice into a virtue and to make use of his drenched coat to produce a nice effect: as soon as he came out of the grass, I asked him to run towards me. The enticing laws of physics, so I thought, would hopefully cause the water to spray away, which would create an aquatic halo around him. And as you can see, it worked! I am particularly proud of the fact that each and every single drop of water in these pictures is authentic.
