Day Five, Oakham and Leicester

Aramis and I had a lovely morning walk along Rutland Water this morning.

We then drove to Oakham, a very pretty little town which had been recommended to me by a friend. Aramis and I took a little tour and visited the castle. It’s tiny if Windsor is your point of reference, but old, as it dates from the 12th century, and features a unique horseshoe collection.

There was a wedding going on inside, so we missed out on the horseshoe collection.

On our way back to the car, Aramis really wanted to get up this level crossing and had a rest. I had no idea why he was so fond of getting up there and insisted on staying there, but it seemed to make him happy.

It only took a short journey with the car to get to my friend’s house near Leicester. After Aramis and I were welcomed very warmly, we spent a relaxing afternoon chatting and exchanging news.

A little later in the afternoon we went for a walk around the fields. Aramis was in seventh heaven: he finally got to run off the lead again at his heart’s content!

Tomorrow we will continue to York, which will be about a two hour drive, where we will be meeting some more old friends. I cannot wait!
